Make the Switch Monday: A Natural Alternative to Mainstream Fragrances

Whether you are a man or woman, one thing is for certain; we all want to smell good! Head into any department store and you are sure to find a vast array of fragrances, one of which is certain to appeal to your sense of smell.

What you may not know, however, is that sometimes the most sensual scents hide a grocery list of harmful chemicals that may affect not only your skin, but your health too.

These scents can cause skin reactions in sensitive individuals, but don’t forget that whatever we apply or spray onto our skin is absorbed by the body, meaning that long-term use may be hazardous to your health.

Let’s take a quick look at 3 of the worst ingredients that may be present in your popular mainstream fragrances such as Chanel No.5 or Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue.

Phthalates
In our opinion, this is one of the worst chemical added to most fragrances. The reason? Well, phthalates (pronounced F-THAL-LATES) are a known carcinogen, meaning they increase your risk of cancer if used over a period of time. It has even been linked to kidney and liver damage. It’s best to avoid this synthetic preservative altogether.

Parabens
Another synthetic preservative that’s best to avoid at all cost, parabens are also known carcinogens. They are also endocrine disruptors, meaning they affect hormones, which can result in mood changes, reproductive problems and even cancer.

Musk
Believe it or not, musk is obtained from the gland of the male musk deer! If that doesn’t put you off, this might. This chemical may cause allergic reactions if you have sensitive skin and may affect hormones. It’s also bad for the environment, as it is believed to accumulate and persist in the air when sprayed.

And don’t be fooled into thinking all perfume companies list every ingredient on the label!

“Laboratory tests commissioned by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, and analyzed by EWG, found a total of 38 chemicals not listed on the labels in 17 name-brand fragrances (such as Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Bath & Body Works, Old Spice, Calvin Klein, and more).”

Hopefully this helps to open your eyes to the nasty chemicals lurking in that gorgeous bottle. Before you panic though, we are happy to tell you that there is a natural alternative and it smells every bit as good!

“The word “Wei” has two meanings. The first is“transformative action” and the second is “for the benefit of all”.
